Private Charter Jet Take Off Times and Angry Citizens Over Noise Abatement Rules

Do you want to own a private jet or get in on a fractional jet? Perhaps, you'd like to occasionally charter a jet to travel abroad, go on a skiing vacation, or just get away for the weekend? Does your corporation need such a business tool, if you are not alone, and the increase in efficiency might just be well worth the extra money, and no hassle travel, for instance no need to go to a major aircraft airport terminal, and often these charter, fractional, and private jets can operate out of less congested smaller airports.

Oh, you didn't think about that did you? Well, there are a few snags with that regard, for instance many of the smaller airports out in the suburbs have noise abatement challenges with the local populations, plus hours of service, meaning you cannot come back late at night or take off at zero-dark-thirty in the morning you see. And what happens if you have your private jet hangared their and all of a sudden the city or county which owns the airport decides; "NO MORE JETS!"

Well, it's happened more than once and it seems to be happening more and more often these days, as citizens rally together and call in their lawyers. Now there is some good case law to stop such actions due to noise issues. There was a case recently, in Santa Monica, CA.

In the March 2011 issue of AOPA - Airplane Owners and Pilots Association Magazine (the print version) there was an interesting article about Santa Monica Airport published in the AOPA Action page regarding State and Local Regulations titled; "Court Backs FAA: Santa Monica Can't Ban Jets" - the article discussed how citizen petitions from nearby residents had attempted to ban all private jet traffic into the airport, even though the airport has been there for over 80-years.

Jets have been taking off and landing there since the mid-60s in fact. However, now the airport has homes all around it and the citizens are not so happy with the increased jet traffic, even though the newer jets are getting quieter, there is just too many of them say residents, who cannot sleep, think, watch TV, or talk in their own homes they say.

Before you go and purchase a jet, a hangar, or pick out a fractional jet company, you need to consider all this and look into the reality where you are. Indeed, I hope you will think on this and act appropriately in your decision to fly in a private jet.
